Our family took a 5 day private camping tour with Neville from Offroad Dreaming to Kakadu, Katherine and Litchfield National Park. It was such a wonderful and fun experience that we will never forget.
Neville is an outstanding guide – from his extensive knowledge of the country and Aboriginal culture, professionalism, meticulous organisation, magnificent fresh meals, genuine love of the country and efforts to help us enjoy the trip as much as possible. We really appreciated all the thought and attention to detail that went into creating an itinerary that included a few places we really wanted to visit like Jim Jim Falls and Gunlom and we loved the places Neville and Yvonne recommended especially Maguk, Katherine Hot Springs and Edith Falls. I also really appreciated all of Neville’s tips on the best ways to enjoy each place we visited like watching out for the concrete step on the way out of Wangi Falls. All 3 of our children, aged 9,12 and 14 loved camping and swimming at all the places we visited especially Katherine Hot Springs. They learnt a lot too – from Neville’s dreamtime stories to the fact they can survive (and have a far more amazing time) with no service!
We can’t recommend Offroad Dreaming enough! It was such a fantastic trip. Thank you very very much.
Adam, our guide/archaeologist was so amazingly knowledgeable, we enjoyed every part of the day, a small group in a small air-conditioned bus, lots of chilled water snacks and a great lunch. The guide on the river cruise was a beautiful, gently spoken man, respectful of his land and culture, he also was a pleasure to learn from. Highly recommend this tour and will go on their Litchfield tour next time.
I formed a Cruise Critic roll call group to participate in Offroad Dreaming’s cruise ship group tour to Litchfield National Park. Our guide, Adam, was superb. We visited three waterfalls and had the opportunity to swim at each one. A delicious lunch was served complete with tablecloths and silverware. Snacks were also provided. Our guide stopped the van when he saw a frilled lizard crossing the road and for an emu family with three chicks crossing later. Best wildlife in the wild I saw on our entire trip! I was very pleased with this excursion and highly recommend it. The schedule is modified for cruise ship passengers. You are picked up at the ship upon arrival and returned in time for departure.
Made a rather last-minute plan to head to Litchfield National Park on a day tour since it included a crocodile experience (initially looking at this). Best decision ever. First highlight was our guide, Norm. He was not just a wonderful driver, highly informative, patient in the timings to self-explore, lovely conversationalist but a heck of an extremely hilarious dude. We thoroughly enjoyed his guiding & company with his humour & imparting us with all the knowledge about the NP in bite-size portions. Second highlight was surely the crocodile boat ride with Pat. Unlike the more commercialised companies, this is truly way better in terms of being immersive & intimate. Pat is so passionate about the reptiles, it was not only just the sight of them but learning about them as well, turning it into a journey understanding these creatures too – & he will absolutely try to give you the photo opportunities you need/want. Brilliant day!
We got picked up at 5:15am and were back at our hotel around 7:30pm. This was a very long day, but the tour was well worth it.
One other commenter said you’d be better off driving it yourself. Due to risks associated with self-driving (hitting Wallaroos, Wallaby, Cows, etc.) You would need to wait for sunrise and return before sunset. This would be very hard to do if driving yourself. Adam is very knowledgeable and was a great guide, explaining the rock art and offering amusing commentary as we went along.
Insect repellent, SPF 30+ sun block, a wide brimmed hat, and a 1.5 to 2 litre water bottle are a must! The flies were all over, although not biting, they were very annoying. Our insect repellent wasn’t sufficient.
The look out at Ubirr Rock was amazing. The boat tour was nice, but due to recent rainfall there were no crocs that we saw.
The Lichfield Escapes 1 day tour we did the following day had jumping crocs and we saw tons. Highly recommend doing both!
Picked up on time from hotel. Friendly and informative driver. Plenty of time to enjoy the waterholes and waterfall swims and scenery.
The boat trip on the Adelaide River fantastic. Interesting, exciting and fun. Saw lots of crocodiles in and out of the water.
My partner and I were in Darwin and wanted to experience the natural wonders of both Kakadu and Litchfield Nationalpark.
We knew that we would get the best experiences by going on a tour that lasted 2 or 3 days – but we only had short time in Darwin, and Offroad Dreaming offered a wonderful day-tour to each of the parks. They even gave a discount when booking both tours!
We had a very good experience on each tour with stunning landscapes, excellent guided talks, cultural heritage art, swimming and close wildlife encounters. Thanks to our guides Adam (Kakadu) and Neville (Litchfield) for guiding us with passion and extensive knowledge.
The included boat tour with an aboriginal guide on Alligator River (Kakadu) and with ‘Pat’ on Adelaide River to see the saltwater crocs (Litchfield) were phenomenal.
Last but not least – lunch was great!!
Did the day trip to Litchfield and croc tour with 8 other people, which meant it was much more personal than going with a larger operator. Wraps, muesli bars, water and biscuits offered. Option for you to buy food and drink at 2 stops during the day which I think is good to support local. I bought coffee and ice cream!. This long day was exceptional value- considering the time our guide was working, his costs for the minibus and the incredible boat trip and boat driver who was very knowledgeable. This day trip was down to earth, relaxed. Don’t forget to take a book or something for when you’re on the bus between places, take sunscreen, hat, repellent. This isn’t about fancy clothes, makeup and 5 star- this is a trip to see and swim in the waterfalls and be completely exhilarated and stunned by crocs. I loved it! Take lots of photos!
Fun day even in the rain. Nev is easy going & knowledgable about the area. Adelaide river croc trip with Pat was really interesting & he knows his stuff. Would love to go back to Litchfield when we can swim!
Cannot recommend this trip highly enough!
Nev is a top top geezer and very knowledgeable and approachable.
Pat at the Adelaide river is an incredible human and makes you see crocs in a different light!
All in all a brilliant day.
