Litchfield National Park is a nature reserve made up of lush Savannah Woodlands and Monsoonal Forest.  There are various waterfalls and bushwalks, where you can explore or spend your time relaxing in the tranquillity.  Throughout the day we may spot wildlife such as the rock wallaby and water monitors.

After about an hour and a half’s driving we will arrive into Litchfield National Park.  Here our first stop will be at the Litchfield Tourist Park.  Here as we wait for the group to freshen up after the drive, you have the opportunity to purchase a fresh, take away coffee, from their tropics inspired restaurant.

After a short drive into the park we arrive at the site of the Cathedral and Magnetic termite mounds.  Here you will be given a light snack and another opportunity to fill up your water bottle. We will take you on a guided walk through these magnificent structures, where you will hear all about their role in our tropical ecosystem.

Your first swimming stop of the day is Florence Falls.  After a fifteen minute drive from leaving the termite mounds we will arrive at the Florence Falls car park, which is a short walk to the viewing platform, where you have a birds eye view of these full flowing twin waterfalls from above.  A walk down the steps will take you to the water's edge, where you can dip your feet into the shallow rock pools or swim in the fresh waters of this deep swimming hole.

After making our way back up the steps to the car park, we take the short drive over to Buley Rockhole.  For those who prefer, there is a moderate, approximate 25 minute bushwalking trail between the two falls, that will take you there avoiding the drive and the steps back up to the top.

Buley Rockhole is a multi level formation of cascading waterfalls and springs.  Each pocket of water feeds into its own shallow or deep water hole.  There is time here to explore the multiple spots, or find your favourite to swim and relax.  Rocks can be slippy when wet, so you will need to take care while walking around.  While you are swimming, your Guide will prepare a fresh buffet style picnic lunch at one of the picnic tables on location.

After lunch we will make the 30 minute drive around to Wangi Falls.  Wangi Falls is a vast, deep, serenic waterhole, fed by two majestic waterfalls that flow down the impressive cliff face.  This is a very significant cultural location, which we have the privilege to enjoy.  You can take your time here to really enjoy your swim, or you can laze on the grassy surrounds and soak up the atmosphere.

Mid afternoon we will drive over to the Adelaide River, for your late afternoon, private group, crocodile cruise.  The Adelaide river has the most concentrated population of crocodile in the Top End and our skipper has one of the managed licences to travel through the natural habitat of these magnificent creatures.  The custom made boat will take you up close to where the crocodiles are and as the skipper tells you all about their habits and survival skills, you will have multiple iconic photo opportunities.

Late afternoon, early evening, we will arrive back in the Tropical city of Darwin. We will drop you back at your hotel.  If you would like dropped off somewhere else in the CBD, you can discuss this with your Guide throughout the day.  Please remember to take all your belongings with you, as our depot is not in Darwin but a drive South from there. We hope you enjoy your evening in this tropical oasis of a city, with multiple night venues and walks available.

Offroad Dreaming will host your visit through the Northern Territory.  Offroad Dreaming Guides will use their knowledge, training and experience, along with our exceptional customer service standards, to share some of the quality experiences and activities the Top End offers.  Our Guides are fully licensed and accredited, and first-aid qualified. They hold knowledge certification and Ochre cards where required.  All our Guides are hand selected, with appropriate experience and references.  We will work with you to find the right Guide for your group. Please note a Litchfield Park Pass must be purchased before your tour as it is NOT included in your fare.

You will not need to bring any food with you.

We provide fresh snacks and meals based on whole food ingredients, which can be amended to cater for special dietaries when required. Chilled, filtered drinking water is provided. Please bring a refillable water bottle.

Itinerary Changes

Throughout the day, if you would like to amend the itinerary or spend more or less time at each location, please consult with your Guide, who can restructure the day as you go.

Footwear

Please be aware of the walking distance of each trek and take a full water bottle with you each time. You will walk on bush tracks with loose dirt, sticks and stones. Suitable supportive footwear is recommended.

Travel Distances

Distances between locations in the Northern Territory can be vast. Itineraries are designed to minimise driving times as much as possible. Your drive will be broken up with regular comfort stops, and you are welcome to discuss additional stops with the Guide at any time. Some of our larger vehicles also have onboard toilet facilities.

The Vehicle

Offroad Dreaming has a variety of their own 2 Wheel Drive and 4 Wheel drive vehicles available for your transport. We will allocate you the most suitable vehicle depending on your group size and itinerary. We also work with other local vehicle providers when additional or extra sizes of vehicles are required. All vehicles are fully accredited, licensed, and insured to carry passengers and fitted with specific tour vehicle plates and are maintained to a high standard. Our vehicles are not wheelchair accessible.  Small walking aids can be stored in the back of the vehicle or trailer, depending on group size or vehicle.

Wildlife

Wildlife, such as wallabies, birds, snakes, frogs and lizards, can be spotted and observed throughout the region, which is made up of Savannah Woodlands, Monsoon Forest and sandstone formations.  We do not approach wildlife but will have the opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat.  Most of our wildlife is not naturally aggressive and generally does not approach humans unless provoked. Many species of snakes inhabit the Top End of Australia. Not all are venomous. Your Guide is fully trained to manage any health and safety requirements. Spider bites can cause mild sickness. Their bites are not fatal. Estuarine crocodiles do inhabit our waterways. Regular water surveys are carried out in designated swimming spots. Please observe swim safety signs at all times. Your Guide will also be available with safety updates.

Subject to change

Your itinerary may be subject to change due to cultural, seasonal and/ or environmental conditions. We aim to replace unavailable activities and locations with suitable alternatives.

Seasonality

Our Dry Season runs from May to October, and the weather is typically dry with light winds. Daytime temperatures average in the mid-30s, with low humidity and mild nights ranging from 15-25°C. November to April is the Wet Season in the Top End, tropical storms bring long-awaited rain, and the bush comes alive. Days can be sunny and dry and not adversely affected; however, it is monsoon season, and the rains can cause localised flooding, resulting in temporary road closures.  We are given advance notice of upcoming weather events and will make appropriate amendments to your itinerary.  In extreme cases, we may have to cancel.  Temperatures can range from 20-30°C overnight and up to the high 30s and 40s during the day.  Humidity levels often reach 80% or more, causing the temperature to feel hotter than it is.

Yvonne, our guide, was so knowledgeable and fun. She did a great job and we really enjoyed both Litchfield Park and the crocodile tour. We'd also totally recommend going through the Croc Spot for your crocodile tour. We did 2 while in Darwin and this tour operator did a much better job getting us great pictures and getting the crocs to jump for their food. Yvonne our tour guide helped him the day we were there and she also did a great job with the crocodiles!

Off-road Dreaming tour guide was excellent. Great stories, very friendly, great food, small group. Nothing was too much. Deb was a fountain of information and she looked after us so well.

A really fantastic experience - our guide/driver Di from Offroad Dreaming was extremely professional, knowledgeable and very experienced (and kind :-)). The waterfalls and swimming holes were very enjoyable - a cool dip to provide relief from the heat and humidity! The Jumping Croc boat ride with Rex was a great experience. Again the vast experience and local knowledge was obvious and very much appreciated. Travelling with a small, friendly group was an added benefit. I would do this trip again.
